The creation
In the 1930s, Gaston-Louis Vuitton received an unexpected request:
To create a bag capable of carrying five bottles of champagne.
He came up with a flat-bottomed, bucket-shaped bag closed with a drawstring. Both functional and elegant, it was named Noé, after the biblical figure associated with the vine.
Originally designed as a utilitarian bag, it quickly made its way onto the streets of Paris… and then the world. Alongside the Speedy, it became one of Louis Vuitton's first true "it-bags".
Its revival
Forty years later, the Noé reinvented itself. Its shoulder strap grew longer, silhouettes changed, fashion modernized.
Louis Vuitton then released it in its famous Épi leather, a textured and colorful material that would become inseparable from the house's aesthetic.
