The Speedy
The vintage Louis Vuitton Speedy
Created in 1930 by Gaston-Louis Vuitton, the Speedy is one of the founding pieces of Louis Vuitton leathergoods. It was in 1965, at the request of Audrey Hepburn who wanted a more compact format, that the Speedy 25 appeared — the version that would define the icon.
Which Speedy is right for you?
Five sizes, five uses. Choosing a Speedy starts with finding the right format.
- Nano Speedy — a very compact shoulder model, ideal as a complement, comes with a shoulder strap
- Speedy 25 — Audrey Hepburn's original format, perfect for everyday urban use
- Speedy 30 — the most widely produced size, balancing capacity and silhouette
- Speedy 35 — for those who need more room, including weekends
- Speedy 40 — cabin-size format, rarer in pre-loved condition
Available materials and canvas
Our selection covers the full range of the model's variations:
- Monogram — the original coated canvas, caramel brown, natural vachette handles that develop a patina over time
- Damier Ebene — a discreet alternative to the Monogram, created in 1888 and relaunched in 1996
- Damier Azur — the lighter, more summery version
- Épi — grained wheat-stalk leather, available in several colours
- Empreinte — supple calfskin with embossed monogram, contemporary range
- Mini Lin and collaborations (Murakami, Stephen Sprouse, etc.) — rarer pieces

Frequently asked questions
How do I choose the right Speedy size?
If you carry little on a daily basis and prefer a compact silhouette, the Speedy 25 or the Nano are the right choices. For standard everyday use (smartphone, wallet, pouch, book), the Speedy 30 remains the reference. Beyond that — travel, laptop, weekends — go for the 35 or 40.
How to spot an authentic Speedy?
Several markers: the perfect regularity of the Monogram canvas (motifs aligned at the seams), the quality of the natural vachette leather that develops a caramel patina over time, the presence of an embossed date code inside, the "Lampo" marking on the zip for models produced until the 2000s, and the absence of "Made in" on the internal plate (Louis Vuitton did not always include this mention). Our team checks all of these elements before listing.
What is the difference between Speedy 25, 30 and 35?
The numbers correspond to the length of the bag in centimetres when laid flat. The Speedy 25 measures 25 × 19 × 15 cm, the Speedy 30 approximately 30 × 21 × 17 cm, and the Speedy 35 approximately 35 × 23 × 18 cm. Beyond the size difference, the silhouette changes: the higher the number, the more rounded the bag.
How much does a vintage Speedy cost?
Prices vary depending on the model, year, condition and canvas. A Speedy 25 or 30 Monogram in very good condition (grade B+) typically ranges between €400 and €800. Rarer variants — coloured Épi, recent Damier Azur, Murakami collaborations — can exceed €1,200. Our prices reflect the exact condition of each individual piece.
Is the Nano Speedy simply an XS version of the Speedy?
No. The Nano Speedy is a distinct model, designed as a shoulder bag with an included strap, unlike the classic Speedy which is a handheld bag. Its shape echoes the historic silhouette but its function is different. If you are looking for a genuine shoulder bag, this is where to start.
Can the Speedy be worn on the shoulder?
The classic Speedy was designed to be carried by hand. Variants with a removable shoulder strap (Speedy Bandoulière, "Speedy B") were introduced in 2011 and became very popular. If you want to wear your Speedy on the shoulder, look at Speedy Bandoulière models or the Nano.
