The first true It Bag in history: The Fendi Baguette

A design that became legendary.
Created in 1997 by Silvia Venturini Fendi, the Fendi Baguette is considered the very first true It Bag of contemporary fashion. Its name comes from the way it is worn: tucked under the arm, like a French baguette carried home from the bakery.
At a time when bags were designed mainly for practicality, Silvia Venturini Fendi envisioned an accessory that was above all desirable, capable of becoming a true fashion statement. Its compact format, its flap adorned with the famous FF clasp and its endless variations instantly won over luxury enthusiasts. Over the years, more than a thousand versions of the Baguette have been created, making it one of the most reinterpreted bags in the history of leather goods.
Its fame skyrocketed in the early 2000s thanks to the series Sex and the City. In a now-iconic scene, Sarah Jessica Parker, playing Carrie Bradshaw, corrects a mugger demanding her bag by replying: "It's a Baguette." This line definitively propelled the design to icon status in pop culture and luxury.
